IAS also emphasizes accreditation and continuous quality improvement to meet global aviation standards.
Describe the work that you do in your role
In my role as a lecturer at the Institute of Aviation Studies, UMT, I teach Project Management, Leadership, and Human Resource Management, all with a focus on the aviation industry, as well as Airport Operations Management. I aim to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in aviation management and operations. Beyond teaching, I actively contribute to academic development as a member of the Board of Studies at IAS, where I participate in curriculum development and program enhancement to align with industry standards.
Indicate previous experience and/or areas of career proficiency/achievenments
I began my career at Gerry's Dnata, where I handled ground operations for leading airlines such as Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Air Arabia, and SriLankan Airlines. This role honed my operational management and coordination skills in a fast-paced aviation environment.
Subsequently, I joined Airblue, where I managed cockpit and cabin crew planning and scheduling. My team successfully maintained operations during disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on flight schedules. Our efforts earned me several appreciation letters from the company, recognizing my ability to adapt and deliver under challenging circumstances. These experiences have shaped my expertise in aviation operations, crew management, and effective problem-solving.
Describe your success in your professional life and achievements
Throughout my career, I have made measurable contributions to my institution, earning the Best Teacher Award in 2023 for excellence in teaching and mentoring. I successfully led the accreditation process for the BS Aviation Management program, aligning it with global standards and enhancing its credibility. My innovative teaching methods have improved student engagement and academic outcomes, while my efforts on the admissions committee streamlined processes, boosting enrollment and improving communication with prospective students.
I have also led impactful projects, including a sustainability initiative to reuse discarded file covers across 10 UMT schools, promoting resource efficiency. Additionally, I developed a software tool to resolve timetable and scheduling challenges at IAS, with the potential to benefit the entire university. These initiatives reflect my commitment to innovation and meaningful change.
Write your activities and achievement if you were member of any club or society in UMT?
During my time at UMT, I had the privilege of founding an Aviation Club in 2014, which continues to be active and serve as a platform for students to collaborate and engage in meaningful activities. I was fortunate to work with students from various degree programs, each bringing their unique strengths to the team. For example, a student from Mass Communication contributed to media coverage, while another from the School of Science and Technology helped design posters and logos. This experience taught me the value of teamwork and the importance of appreciating the diverse talents of others. It was truly rewarding to see how collective efforts could create something lasting and impactful.
What do you remember about your time in ILM / IMT /UMT?
I deeply cherish the moments I spent at UMT, particularly the encouragement and recognition I received for my academic achievements. Dr. Hassan Sohaib Murad’s (late) exemplary leadership left a lasting impression on me; his remarkable ability to personally connect with students and remember them by name was both inspiring and motivating. Receiving the Rector’s and Dean’s Awards in his presence was an honor I hold close to my heart. The supportive environment, rigorous academic programs, and abundant opportunities for personal and professional growth at UMT played a pivotal role in shaping the individual and professional I am today.
