Transitioned from preschool teaching at LGS to visiting Lecturership at the University of the Punjab (PU). I have taught English Communication courses and IELTS there to undergraduate and graduate students. Currently, I work as an IELTS trainer. I plan to start my independent Online IELTS Training Business.
Describe the work that you do in your role
During my MSc Applied Linguistics program at UMT, I honed my skills in conceptual and skill-based teaching. So, at PU, I initiated, designed, and delivered activity-oriented courses. These courses provided students with hands-on experiences in practical language use. In addition to teaching regular English and IELTS courses at PU, I pioneered the launch of an Academic Essay Writing course at PU's Skill Development Center, introducing this offering to enhance students' academic writing skills.
Indicate previous experience and/or areas of career proficiency/achievenments
I started my professional journey as a preschool teacher at LGS, which became the cornerstone of my teaching expertise. Building on this foundation, I completed an MSc in Applied Linguistics at UMT, along with an internship in university-level teaching. Later, it allowed me to move to lecturership from preschool teaching.
To continually enhance my skills, I have actively engaged with online educational platforms offering certificate courses and diplomas from leading global universities. Alongside it, I completed my MS in PR & Advertising from Beaconhouse National University (BNU).
My educational experiences empowered me to introduce, develop, and run conceptual, skill-oriented, and activity-based teaching programs at PU and other places.
In addition, I explored the area of Content Writing, and creating articles for corporate blogs.
Furthermore, as a certified Success Coach, I provided coaching to executives and professionals from diverse backgrounds, helping them achieve their personal and professional goals.
Currently, I am in the phase of setting up my independent online business in IELTS training.
Describe your success in your professional life and achievements
Unconventionally, I began my career in midlife, after ensuring my children were settled in school. I started as a preschool teacher at LGS in 2005. In 2007, I decided to advance my qualifications, earning an MSc in Applied Linguistics from UMT and an MS in Public Relations and Advertising from BNU.
In parallel, I have pursued personal and professional growth by taking specialized courses on platforms like Coursera, where leading U.S. universities offer online education. My MSc degree enabled me to transition from preschool teaching to university-level lecturing.
Beyond my role as a lecturer, my diverse interests have led me to offer services in content writing, writing training, and executive coaching.
Now, I aspire to set up my independent online business as IELTS trainer.
Write your activities and achievement if you were member of any club or society in UMT?
I wrote articles for the UMT Magazine for two years, but the magazine had not been published for several years."
What do you remember about your time in ILM / IMT /UMT?
My experience at UMT was a turning point in my life, where I encountered conceptual and skill-oriented education for the first time. UMT nurtured me intellectually, emotionally, and socially, empowering me with modern skills such as computer literacy, effective communication, impactful presentations, and advanced writing techniques. Above all, it taught me to approach life with a more positive mindset.
I resumed my education at UMT after a 17-year gap during my midlife, learning a profound lesson: It is never too late to start over. This experience enabled me to embrace new beginnings and seize opportunities that once seemed out of reach. Thanks to UMT, I now find countless doors of opportunity open before me.
