The National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES or FAST-NU) with headquarters at Islamabad and campuses at Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Faisalabad is one of the leading technical universities in Pakistan. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, and Mathematics.

Its history dates back to 1985 when the Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology set up institutes for computer science in the cities of Karachi and Lahore in Pakistan. Later on campuses were set up in the capital city of Pakistan] (Islamabad), Peshawar and Faisalabad also. The National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences received its charter in 2000 in the Federal Area (capital). It became the first multi-campus university of Pakistan with campuses in Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar and Lahore.

Describe the work that you do in your role

• Enable and disable the registration permission of the students from the online database.
• Add new semester courses for the online registration to each batch according to degree plan.
• Add/drop of manual application of registration of warning/probation students.
• Provide blank grade sheet to the teachers by e-mail and in hardcopy format.
• Extremely late settings in the registration period.
• Acting as a Liaison between Faculty and the various departments.
• Under the direction of the HOD, developing and maintaining effective working relationships with all others departmental staff, assuring that necessary information is provided on a timely basis.

• Scheduling meetings & maintaining record-keeping systems, and responding to inquiries by post and by emails.
• Responding students queries with accurate information whenever they visit office & asked via email.
• Keep up to date all students of our department regarding updated rules and regulations and policies of the University.
• Handling the building administrative issues regarding light, internet problem of faculty offices and Labs and cleanliness and maintain strong follow-up until the problem is resolved.
• Keep up to date classrooms in all respects.
• Assigning month wise duties of Lab Assistants to handle the classes.
• Scheduling/shuffling of the makeup classes and related tasks and reservation of rooms for other departments.
• Issuing the Bonafied certificates to students on their request.
• After completion of each semester, dispatching Transcripts and maintain a record.
• Travel sometimes for purchasing office materials on urgent basis.
• Maintain E-file of Class Attendances, Mids and Final Exams, Course Withdrawal, Mid term weightage Transfer applications.
• Data entries of the final grades.
• Making visiting faculty details for payment of courses taught in semester.
• Provide the visiting and permanent faculty final evaluation/feedback submitted by students to the HOD’s.
• Preparing seating plan in Mids and in Final exams as per room capacity.
• Follow up with faculty for submission of question papers and duties preferences.
• Answers books receiving in Mid terms and in final exam & sorting subject & section wise and related tasks.
• Issuance of duplicate admit card to students and maintain record.
• Investigating the exams related issues reported by faculty & students.
• Maintaining a record of questions papers and students exams attendance sheets.
• Maintaince of Final Exams record in store of 1 year old and compile data.

• Issuance of final degrees and transcripts & maintaining a record.
• Making of Student University Id card.
• Printing of Interim Transcripts after completion of each semester & handover to concerned Academic office.
• Travel sometimes for purchasing office materials on urgent basis.
• Verification of the students documents (Degrees & Transcripts & certificates sent by external organizations).
• Change status of student’s degree from Current to Cancelled/Completed/Transfer (Time to Time).

Library Assistant in LUMS University Lahore from Oct 2007 - Sep 2009:


• Maintaining of Press clipping on monthly basis from four local newspapers (Business Recorder, Dawn, The Nation, The News International).These include sorting of newspapers, Data Entry, Cutting of the articles, Labeling date wise, Sorting File no wise, Photocopy of each article, Scanning of each article, Pasting in the files.
• Maintaince of Annual Company Reports and Digitization Project.
• Downloading of Journals form the websites said by the seniors.
• Handling of Automated Circulation on daily basis (2-3 Hours at Front Desk).
• Shelve Reading of Books, Current and Bound Newspaper, Company reports.
• Working in shifts (Morning, Mid-Morning, After noon, Evening, Whole Night), weekends.
• Library opening / closing.
• Provision of accurate and brief information about products and services to the caller/Student/Library Users.

Describe your success in your professional life and achievements

I did my Regular Masters Degree from UMT with Full time job. I am alone performing duties in civil engineering department as an academic officer and also in administration and i also supervise to the lab assistant of civil engineering department.

What do you remember about your time in ILM / IMT /UMT?

Bike stand should be within campus for students. I really embarrassed with the bike stand outside UMT during my entire degree.
Fees of the degree should me minimized. And alumni should be rewarded maximum fee waiver in opting any next degree at umt.
